Stremio 4.0 is coming soon with great new features

Stremio 4.0 is coming soon with great new features

And there are 7 reasons why this should get you excited:

  • Trakt.tv import - From the scale of Winnie the Pooh to Trainspotting, how strong is your addiction to good movies? If you are a great movie lover, you may have used Trakt.tv to keep track on most of what you have watched so far.

  • With 4.0 you will be able to import your Trakt.tv library to Stremio and have your favorite movies handy in your Stremio library. You will see more recommendations on the Board, while Trakt.tv continues to track your preferences on the background. We are great fans of their work and we recommend you to go and have a look at it too.

  • Remote control via phone - Youwill be able to use your smartphone as a remote control for Stremio. You will be able to watch from a comfortable distance to the screen, while in the meantime your phone subdues the entire 4.0 platform directly to the will of your thumb. They say that power corrupts, but man - it can feel so good to be bad.

  • Web version: Stremio can now run in your browser. That’s right folks, you can run Stremio without necessarily downloading the platform to your PC. You just hit app.strem.io in your browser and All you can watch is one click away from you. It’s quite good for saving some precious disk space on your PC and you can watch movies wherever you are - on a trip, at your friend’s house or from your office computer, while your boss.

  • Focus on performance - You are tired of waiting? The new 4.0 is build with great care towards performance, so don’t worry - it will take care of everything. It’s quick and slick, and you will forget what loading time means. Which is cool if you are watching something that needs to be turned off the moment someone opens the door. On a side note, have you seen how many bikini babe channels we have? (TV channels => Bikini babe) It’s a breast collection, covered with booby traps for your spare time. Pun intended.

  • Focus on stability - Have you encountered a crash? A glitch? Forget about them. The Stremio team has listened to you and managed to improve many aspects in terms of stability in the new Stremio. You can count up to 4.0 for that.

  • Linux - friendly - Stremio is now much more Linux friendly - we have .deb and .snap packages, which will definitely make installing Stremio much easier!

  • For the tech people out there - we’re sure you’d be interested to know about our departure from Electron and migration to Qt (qt.io). The reason for this switch was that we needed more flexibility for our video player and how the UI is drawn on top of it. Even though we’ve contributed to some great solutions for Electron, such as wcjs (https://github.com/Ivshti/wcjs-prebuilt), it’s time to move to a better, simpler more integrated and controlled architecture.

Awesome! Stremio weekend video guide

Awesome! Stremio weekend video guide

Still not sure who is this Tyrion guy or Dr. Robert Ford or why all your friends or colleagues keep talking about them? Do you have the sensation you are missing something?

In the first Awesome! Stremio Weekend Guide we will look back towards the best of 2016. Along with bad news on the TV, some great new shows emerged, great new movies and quite good youtube channels. As we know how difficult it is to choose what to watch we have made the shortest possible selection by choosing just 5 cool things to watch on Stremio during the weekend.

5 Awesome! Stremio Weekend movies

5 AWESOME! STREMIO WEEKEND MOVIES

War? What is it good for? - Edwin Starr

In “War Dogs”, war is the good story of two twenty-something guys, who land a 300-million arms contract from the Pentagon to supply the US army. With the cynicism of “Lord of War” and the narration of “American Hustler”, “War Dogs” is both an entertaining and thought-provoking piece you are definitely going to like. Great performance from Jonah Hill, as his humor is a real weapon of mass destruction as always. Based on a true story.

Deadpool

I didn't ask to be super, and I'm no hero - Deadpool

With Hollywood launching superhero movies like a production line for sausages lately, one superhero movie stands tall above them all. “Deadpool” follows its comic book tradition of breaking the 4th wall, painting everything in red and making the most uncomfortable jokes there is. And yes - this is not a superhero movie for children. It’s a superhero movie for grown-up children who just want to have a nice time in the weekend.

Hell or High Water

A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain. - Mark Twain

Who likes bankers? Following the 2008 economic meltdown this question is becoming more and more redundant. Nobody likes banks and bankers and this includes Chris and Ben, who after being threatened to lose their family property decide to do the most american thing there is: to act. In a western-vigilante style, Jeff Briges is the Sherif who is after them. With great resemblance to “No country for old man” this modern-day western will make you a gun owner by the end of the film.

Snowden

Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?  “A Republic, if you can keep it.” - Benjamin Franklin (1787)

Oliver Stone is here again, with another groundbreaking movie about government surveillance, big data and big brother. Needless to say the movie is based on the true story of Edward Snowden, who in 2013 leaked classified information about NSA monitoring almost everything and everybody in the world on the internet. A remarkable programmer and a man with great love for his country, Snowden is a real person that will grab you from the first moment you hit the play button. And will also make you put a sticker on your laptop camera long after you finish watching it. So put your foil hats on and enjoy.

Me Before you

All you need is love - The Beatles

In a previous article about the new Stremio Andoid App we mentioned the make-up movie. So we have decided to be consistent and offer something for the ladies and for couples as well. Oh, come on, guys, admit it, we all like romantic movies sometimes...Someone...Anyone… OK, It’s just me then. Me before you is a nice story about a special boy and a special girl who fall in love under difficult circumstances. Now if you come to think of it, almost all romantic stories follow this premise… But seriously, this is a good romantic movie. Behind all our cynicism, we all believe in the power of love. Yes, even you and the tears by the end of the movie are the proof. You have been warned.

5 Awesome! Stremio TV series

5 AWESOME! STREMIO TV SERIES

Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Vikings and the last two seasons of South Park are really great TV series, but we have decided to show to you something a little bit different and fresh.

Westworld

You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. - Morpheus, The Matrix (1999)

Instead of the trailer, we have decided to demonstrate the TV show Westworld to any of you who haven’t watched it yet with the Original Soundtrack. If Black hole sun played on a country style piano doesn’t make you curious, we are out of ideas what else could do the trick. The show is a remake of Michael Criton’s 1974 movie with the same name. It follows the premise of a theme park, set in the time of the good ‘ol west with human-like androids populating it. The androids believe they are human. The human visitors can do whatever they want in this world. And this includes everything. That’s right - everything.

Stranger things

The battle between good and evil is endlessly fascinating because we are participants every day. - Stephen King

Set in the 80s, a group of boys find a girl in the forest with great powers. They hide her, while she learns from them about friendship and kinship. It’s a story one step away from saying “ET, go home”. The rest of it is the evil monster, lurking in the shadows and Sir Stephen King has something to say as well. With great intro in the style of “The Outer Limits” this TV show is a bow down to many great classic horror movies and to great 80s classics too. If fear is your drug, try not to overdose with Stranger things.

Silicon Valley

Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one. - Bill Gates
Alas, a comedy show. And what a show it is! HBO are here again with a story of our times - young, uncomfortable tech guys with a great algorithm everybody is bidding for. The stakes are high, venture capital vampires are creeping in closer and closer and the nerdy main characters keep making great joke material out of themselfs. Yes the show is not from 2016, but we believe you guys will like it and the plus side are the extra seasons for more episodes on this lazy sunday ahead of you.

The Exorcist

I think the point is to make us despair. To see ourselves as... animal and ugly. To make us reject the possibility that God could love us. - The Exorcist 1973

With the same name as the Hollywood classic, this TV show takes us beyond the realms of the material. Prepare your mortal souls for a serious ride with Geena Davis and Father Tomas Ortega that will take you from the highs of Heaven to the depths of hell. You don’t believe in such things. Go on, watch one season alone before bed. See if you can find the difference after that.

The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story

Veritas numquam perit (lat.) - Truth never perishes

On October 3th, 1995 New York stock exchange trading dropped, water usage in the entire USA shortened, traffic decreased nationwide as hundreds of millions of americans sat before their TV sets, anxious to hear the verdict on the case of O.J. Simpson. The end result was an explosive reaction that gave birth to numerous books, movies and talks about one of the most controversial trials in american history. In this dramatisation about the destruction of the american dream, Cuba Gooding Jr., John Travolta, Sarah Paulson and even Lady Gaga create a whirlwind of drama, racism and justice that will test your objectivity to your very core.

5 Awesome! YouTube Channels

5 AWESOME! STREMIO YOUTUBE CHANNELS

How do you squeeze gazillion hours of video being uploaded every month in just 5 YouTube channels to stand above them all. It could be difficult for you but for the Stremio team nothing is impossible. So here they are 5 YouTube Channels worth noting about their contribution to the human kind in 2016.

Last week tonight with John Oliver

Very Boring - Donald Trump
Makes people dumb - Wall Street Journal

These proud quotes stay high on the LWT YouTube channel and the self-irony in it is typical for John Oliver. The show is becoming so popular on the internet, John Oliver has repeatedly turned to his internet audience, while being live on air. The reason he is in the list, however is the amazing banter between the show and Donald Trump. The current president-elect was the top news of 2016 and this comedy channel could be argued captures the spirit of the event quite well. Subscribe and get ready for 2017, because the show is just getting started.

WatchMojo

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication - Leonardo Da vinci

We highlight WatchMojo, because they prove that quality media can exist in internet. A very simple concept, top 10 lists about everything - from Top 10 action movies of the 90’s to Top 10 Funnyiest movie insults and Top 10 Video Game glitches. Millions of views and fans and a special place in the hearts of the entire Stremio team. WatchMojo is one of the best channels to start your workday with.

John Cleese channel

One of the founding fathers of Monty Python’s flying circus has made an entry in YouTube in 2016. Widely unnoticed, we here at Stremio could not let this unjustice to continue. John Cleese has a great sense of humor and it’s always a treat for comedy lovers to watch his performance.

School of life

School of life regularly uploads videos, answering to all kinds of questions - from life, religion, philosophy, literature to relationships and lifehacks. It’s full of life lessons that can help you in difficult situations and to make you sound smarter when in the midst of a higher society. The channel is another example of the good sides of the internet.

Hydraulic press channel, Food Surgeon, BBQ pit boys

The bad side of the internet. Videos with no sense at all, that we (or at least most of us) like to watch. Watching if paper could be folded for a seventh time with several tons of power by millions of people is why modern technology exists some could argue. The Food surgeon can make you think “Why am I watching this” for full five minutes, while a guy removes a KitKat with a scalpel and inserts it in the middle of a Mars bar. Real, manly food can be seen on BBQ pit boys - they are really not joking about BBQ, even when that means making a ginormous burger with big sausage and bacon. Do not watch if hungry.
